Bali’s largest port Benoa, which is managed by Indonesian state-owned port operator Pelindo III, is managed to begin export and import services starting from mid January 2016. This attempt is mentioned as part of the government’s strategy to increase international trade volume in Bali.
Nowadays exports from Bali must transit through Tanjung Perak Port in Surabaya, which is taking more logistic cost. Preparation of separate area to handle containers for international and domestic trade and also for custom clearance purposes in Benoa is now entering the final stage.
Purwanto Wahyu Widodo, Pelindo III Commercial Operation Manager mentioned this effort would lower operational cost and reduce overall logistic cost.
Purwanto added that these service upgrades will double the Benoa Port capacity in handling large cargo vessel from currently one in every six days into two. **
