China’s Beihai Rescue Bureau coordinated the rescue of 26 crew members from five vessels hit by bursts of high winds in Liaodong Bay, the Bohai Sea last week. Two of the vessels reportedly sank.
Beihai Rescue Bureau received the first distress call from a cargo vessel identified as the 188-meter-long, China-flagged freighter Yuxinhuo 13396. The five crew members on board the freighter issued a distress signal after the vessel started taking on water. The crewmen were airlifted to the Dalian Airport. Yuxinhuo 13396 is reportedly one of the vessels that sank.
The second rescue was aboard the 105-meter-long Jiang Hang 99. The ship was also taking on water, with five people aboard. All the crewmen were airlifted and also sent to the Dalian Airport.
The Hebei Province maritime rescue center coordinated the rescue of a total of 10 crew members from two barges – Jiang Shun 299 and Guoliang 7 – hit by high winds some 25 nautical miles east of the Jingtang Port.
The barge Chengtong 7 reportedly sank some 40 miles east of the Jingtang Port, but all six crewmen were plucked from the sea and airlifted to Qinhuangdao.
