Jakarta, November 25, 2025 – PT Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia (Persero) (BKI), together with the Indonesian Shipbuilding and Offshore Facilities Industry Association (IPERINDO) and the Ministry of Industry, held a Technical Guidance program on the implementation of the Occupational Safety and Health Management System (SMK3) for the shipbuilding sector.
Held at BKI’s Headquarters in Jakarta, the event carried the theme “Awareness Safety Leadership in the Shipbuilding Industry” and aimed to strengthen safety culture across Indonesia’s maritime industry—one of the sectors with the highest occupational risk profiles. Consistent SMK3 implementation is essential to prevent workplace accidents, fatalities, and occupational illnesses while ensuring compliance with national safety standards. The forum encouraged industry stakeholders to reinforce safety leadership and deepen their understanding of effective OHS practices.

The event opened with a leadership-focused safety session for company executives, followed by technical discussions for managers and OHS personnel from various shipyards. Several key representatives attended the program, including Arief Budi Permana, Director of Classification Business Operations at BKI; Budi Prakoso, VP of Digital Operations at TIC BKI; Mahardi Tunggul Wicaksono, Director of Maritime Industry, Transportation Equipment, and Defense Equipment at the Ministry of Industry; and Bambang Haryo Soekartono, Chairman of the Advisory Board of IPERINDO’s Central Executive Board and Member of Commission VII of the House of Representatives (DPR RI).
Two talk show sessions were also featured during the event.

The first session, themed “Implementation of Shipyard OHS Management Systems in the Indonesian Maritime Industry,” was moderated by Tjahjono Roesdianto, IPERINDO Advisory Board Member, and presented insights from:
Dr. Ir. Rudiyanto, Maritime Expert and former President Director of BKI (2013–2018, 2018–2023)

Anita Puji Utami, Chairperson of IPERINDO

Dr. dr. Sudi Astono, M.S., Coordinator of Institutional Accreditation and SMK3, Ministry of Manpower

Dr. Ir. Sugiarto, M.S., Director of Operations at PT Kualifikasi Migas Indonesia and Member of TIPKM, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources

In the second session, Dr. Sugiarto returned to deliver material on Safety Leadership.

Closing the event, Arief Budi Permana stressed that leadership plays a decisive role in shaping a strong safety culture. “Improving safety must begin with leadership,” he stated. “This workshop provides momentum for leaders to strengthen their commitment to building a safer shipbuilding industry.” He reaffirmed BKI’s commitment to supporting safety improvements through training and awareness initiatives aimed at risk reduction.
The program provided shipyard stakeholders with a learning platform to exchange insights on SMK3 implementation tailored to real operational needs. Strengthening leadership and managerial capabilities is expected to directly improve supervision quality, enhance risk control measures, and ensure safer working environments for shipyard workers. The initiative also reinforces cross-institutional collaboration in building a sustainable national maritime industry that is responsive to safety challenges.

As a follow-up, additional Technical Guidance sessions for shipyard managers and OHS staff will be held online on November 26–27, 2025, to ensure more consistent and comprehensive implementation of safety practices across the industry.
