Held under the theme “Embracing Technical Challenges, Creating Opportunities for Excellence,” the meeting brought together technical expertise and industry perspectives to strengthen the clarity, relevance, and consistent application of BKI’s Rules.
The meeting was attended by BKI Director of Classification Business Operations Arief Budi Permana and Indonesian Shipbuilding and Offshore Industry Association (IPERINDO) Chairperson Anita Puji Utami, who also chairs the BKI Technical Committee. The committee plays an important role in reviewing and developing classification requirements in response to advances in ship technology, evolving safety and environmental protection standards, and changes in national and international regulations.
Arief emphasised the importance of continuously updating the Rules to keep pace with technological and regulatory developments and ensure they meet industry needs.
“Technological and regulatory developments bring increasingly diverse technical challenges. For BKI, each development represents an opportunity to strengthen the quality of our Rules, ensuring they maintain a robust technical foundation, offer clarity in application, and remain relevant to industry requirements,” said Arief.
During the meeting, the committee validated several amendments covering classification and surveys, ship construction, machinery and electrical systems, safety requirements for liquefied gas carriers, and criteria for manufacturers and service suppliers.
Collaboration remains central to this process. The committee brings together regulators, academics, shipowners, shipyards, manufacturer associations, service suppliers, and industry practitioners. Their expertise and practical insights complement BKI’s technical studies and operational experience, helping ensure that the Rules reflect developments and requirements across the maritime sector.
The review process goes beyond introducing new or revised requirements. It aims to ensure that BKI’s Rules remain technically sound, clear, consistent, and practical to apply.
Through the ongoing review and collaborative development of its Classification Rules, BKI continues to support vessel safety, environmental protection, and the advancement of Indonesia’s maritime industry.
