Makassar, February 18, 2026 — PT Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia (Persero) (BKI), in collaboration with the Directorate General of Sea Transportation under the Ministry of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia, conducted seaworthiness inspections for passenger vessels ahead of the 2026 Eid al-Fitr holiday season. The inspections took place at the Makassar Harbormaster and Port Authority Office (KSOP) to ensure vessels operating during the annual homecoming period meet strict safety and operational standards.

The seaworthiness inspections, commonly referred to as spot checks, involved comprehensive on-site assessments of vessel conditions, including hull integrity, machinery performance, safety equipment, and supporting facilities. The objective is to confirm that each vessel is fully prepared to operate safely during the anticipated surge in passenger traffic.

BKI President Director R. Benny Susanto attended the inspection activities, underscoring the company’s role as a maritime classification and survey institution committed to upholding regulatory compliance and operational safety.

The inspections extended beyond document verification to include direct technical checks of onboard safety systems and overall vessel readiness. This proactive approach aims to prevent operational lapses and mitigate risks during one of Indonesia’s busiest travel periods.

In addition to technical evaluations, inspections also covered passenger facilities and vessel cleanliness to ensure comfort throughout the journey. These measures are intended to provide reassurance to the public traveling by sea during the Eid holiday.
