Banyuwangi, August 8, 2025 — PT Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia (Persero) (BKI) took a strategic step to enhance passenger safety on the Ketapang–Gilimanuk ferry route by hosting a Ferry Safety Workshop at the Illira Hotel, Banyuwangi.

The workshop brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from BKI’s board of directors, the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT), the Ministry of Transportation, GAPASDAP, and ferry operators from the Ketapang–Gilimanuk crossing.

The event aimed to identify concrete solutions for strengthening maritime safety systems, with a strong emphasis on professionalism and compliance in ferry operations. Participants engaged in technical discussions and received training materials covering life-saving appliances, cargo securing and lashing, vessel stability, and case studies on safety best practices. The session was met with high enthusiasm, with participation exceeding expectations.

BKI Director Arief Budi Permana highlighted the importance of ship classification and certification in supporting the theme “Safe Crossing, Comfortable Travel.” He emphasized that classification and certification establish critical safety parameters—such as maximum load capacity, vessel dimensions, and the adequacy of safety equipment—that operators are required to follow.

Through this collaborative initiative, BKI reaffirmed its commitment to building a culture of safety and ensuring safer, more reliable ferry services for communities that depend on the Ketapang–Gilimanuk route.
